Abstract

The Future of Financial Planning in Retail: From Predictive Models to Integrated Operations

Objectives:
1. To explain the transformation of retail financial planning from traditional spreadsheet-based
and annual budgeting methods to modern, data-driven, agile planning systems.
2. To highlight the role of AI, machine learning, and predictive analytics in improving demand
forecasting, inventory planning, pricing, markdown optimization, and customer-focused
decision-making.
3. To demonstrate the importance of integrated business planning (IBP) by connecting finance,
merchandising, marketing, supply chain, and operations through a single source of truth.
4. To guide retailers in using modern technology platforms such as cloud data systems, APIs, BI
tools, and next-generation planning software to improve accuracy, collaboration, and
execution.
5. To prepare retail finance professionals and business leaders to adapt to future trends such as
generative AI, hyper-personalization, ESG planning, composable enterprise models, and
